The Religious Affairs Directorate's Basic Views on the Subject1. Sacrifice Can Be Performed Through ProxyAccording to the Religious Affairs Directorate, since sacrifice is an act of worship performed with property, it can be performed through proxy.
A person can give a proxy:
Verbally,Written,By telephone,Via the internet,Electronic communication tools.The given proxy is religiously valid.
2. Sacrifice Can Be Performed AbroadAccording to the fatwa of the High Council of Religious Affairs;
There is no religious objection to having the sacrifice performed in another province within the country or abroad.
Therefore, a sacrifice performed in Africa is also valid as an act of worship if the necessary conditions are met.
3. Conditions That Must Be Followed for the Sacrifice to Be ValidAccording to the Religious Affairs Directorate;
A valid proxy must be obtained.The sacrificial animal must meet the religious requirements.The slaughter must be performed within the days of the Eid.The slaughter must be performed in accordance with Islamic procedures.The person or organization appointed as a proxy must fulfill the mandate properly.4. Simply Donating the Sacrificial Animal's Price is Not SufficientAccording to the Diyanet's (Turkish Religious Affairs Directorate) clear fatwa:
Giving the price of the sacrificial animal to a charity or the poor does not replace the sacrifice.
For the sacrifice to be fulfilled, a sacrificial animal must be purchased in the donor's name with the donated amount and slaughtered in accordance with the proper procedure.
5. Choosing a Reliable Organization is ImportantThe Diyanet states that the person or organization organizing the sacrifice through proxy is obligated to fulfill the mandate completely.
